How To Cast Out A Strigoi

By Alex Raven

DEFINITION OF STRIGOI:

Strigoi: Romania’s Restless Dead and the Eternal Fear of the Unquiet Grave

Most of you have heard of the strigoi, the restless spirits of Romanian folklore that rise from their graves, seeking vengeance, warmth, or blood. But what truly is a strigoi? And why has it haunted the imagination of Romanians for centuries?

Definition of a Strigoi

A strigoi (plural: strigoi, female: strigoaică) is a tortured soul, cursed to wander after death, seeking energy from the living. These spirits are not just myth; for centuries they’ve been an undeniable fear in Romanian communities. They are often blamed for misfortunes, from sick cattle to spoiled crops, and especially for strange illnesses or deaths within families.

Protection against Strigois

People would go to great lengths to protect themselves from a strigoi. Hanging garlic at windows, placing iron objects under pillows, or even exhuming corpses and driving stakes through their hearts.

Strigois in the Ancient Times

But this creature is not unique to Romania. In fact, the concept of the restless or malevolent dead echoes ancient traditions across Europe. In ancient Greece, the souls of the unburied (ataphoi), those who died young (aōroi), and those who died violently (biaiothanatoi) were thought to roam the world of the living. The parallels are striking.

In Romania, though, the strigoi has a far more intimate and terrifying role. According to Tudor Pamfile in “Mitologie românească,” strigoiul, strâgoiul, moroiul (as known in Transylvania and parts of Muntenia and Oltenia), vidmă (in Bucovina), vârcolacul or Cel-Rău all refer to similar cursed spirits or revenants.

How does one become a Strigoi?

Legend says the strigoi is born like any normal child but comes into the world marked literally. A child born with a caul (a thin veil over the head), a strange shirt-like membrane on the body, or a red cowl (chitie) is believed to carry the curse. This caul is said to be placed by the “Devil” himself when a pregnant woman, bare-headed at night, drinks tainted water. If the caul is not quickly removed, the child may one day swallow it and become a strigoi.

A strigoi may be created in many tragic ways: an unbaptized child, a person who dies suddenly (by hanging, drowning, or being shot), someone with many sins or enemies, or even a body passed over by an animal (like a cat, dog, or bird) during the funeral vigil. To prevent such horrors, Romanians traditionally guard the dead carefully, ensuring no living creature crosses the corpse.

There are both living and dead strigoi. The living ones are cursed individuals whose souls leave their bodies at night to torment others. The dead ones rise from their graves to sap vitality from the living, steal milk from cows, or ruin crops and weather.

How does the Strigoi look like?

The strigoi is said to be bald on the crown of the head, has a prehensile tail-like spine covered in hair, and avoids garlic, onions, and incense. Around the feast of Saint Andrew (30th of November), it is believed that strigoii leave their graves or bodies and roam, dancing and causing chaos. This night is one of dark ritual and terror.

Saint Andrew and the Night of Strigoi

Saint Andrew, or Sfântul Andrei in Romanian, is one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus and is considered the protector and spiritual founder of Romania. Celebrated on November 30th, his feast marks a powerful night in Romanian folklore when the veil between worlds is thinnest.

According to tradition, he preached Christianity in the region of Dobrogea, converting many and becoming the country’s first spiritual shepherd. Over time, his feast became entwined with pre-Christian rituals: on this night, strigoi and spirits are said to rise, wolves speak human language, and protective rituals like garlic-smearing and iron charms are practiced to ward off evil.

Thus, Saint Andrew’s night is both sacred and haunted, a moment where faith and ancient fear collide.

Female Strigois

In rural traditions, strigoaice (female strigoi) are said to bring droughts. If a village suffers long dry spells, the blame may fall upon one among them. Hailstorms, they say, are divine punishment upon these beings who refused to allow clean rain. If it rains while the sun shines, people say a strigoaică is getting married.

How To Cast Out A Strigoi

Now that we talked about the definition of the strigoi, let’s look in the Ritual created by me:

Materials:

  • 10 Garlic Gloves

  • Salt

  • Church Incense

  • Bell

  • 1 Coin

Place:  Crossroads

Time: 12:00 AM

Short Storytime:

Let me tell you about the time i was haunted by the strigoi, it’s both funny and scary. 2 months ago, I had a client that booked a Ouija Reading with me. She is a lovely client of mine, hello if you read this! :) Even though ouija boards aren’t traditionally used, i love using them in my personal practice.

She came to me wanting to talk with her deceased grandma. I invoke her grandma using a traditional Romanian ritual to call upon the dead. She appears with a very bold energy. I’m not intimidated by spirits because I can control them, I was actually laughing with my client. In the session, things have gone very extreme. She entered my home, knocking on my walls. Her energy was warm at first, but you’re NOT prepared for what happens next. After we ended the session, because I have ADHD, I decided to also invoke the Devil in my ouija reading. The reason I mention having ADHD, it’s because I was hyperfocusing on the reading, and you barely want to stop.. My dear ADHD people, you know what I mean. :)) While I was calling upon the Devil, my planchette was talking in a foreign language. I didn’t understand what was happening, so I messaged my client.

Her Review.

After our conversation, I realized her grandma got stuck in the ouija board. She was calling me slurs (lol) and she told me that I was going to die. The planchette goes to ‘’ R…U…N T…O…T…T…H…E…F…O…R…E…S…T.  I was laughing, because this is a manipulation tactic used by spirits to intimidate you. (even spirits can be manipulative, lmfao.) DON’T. EVER. FALL. FOR. IT. Just ignore it and don’t do it, otherwise they will try to kill you. Spirits feed themselves witth fear, this is why it’s extremely important, as a witch, to learn how to have control your emotions. They slowly suck your energy until you become one of them, one of the earth. In short, YOU WILL DIE.

At that moment, because I have har, my har spoke to me. Read Article On Har Here.

I didn’t use my book, just my pure Har. It told me what to do. At that moment, I looked into the mirror and I could see her. She was staring at me, desperately trying to hurt me. Because I worship the devil, she couldn’t kill me, but she managed to possess me. She entered my body, and I entered a psychotic state. Because I'm bipolar, she induced me into a state of psychosis and mania. She told me to harm myself, luckily i still had control over my body. We were arguing with each other, I was calling her an evil dead b*tch, she was calling me in slovenian ‘’F*ggot’’ It’s fine, you can laugh, it was fucking hilarious

We fought over the planchette, I was desperately calling upon the Devil, and suddenly there is an authoritative voice in my mind that says “Kneel, Alex Raven, Kneel, my child. You have the power to control her.” So, I was struggling to light Aphrodite’s candle. Even though I practice Romanian and Romani Witchcraft, i also worship ancient deities. I call upon Aphrodite’s secret name which is ‘’ N E P H E R I E R I ’’. You can find more details in the Greek Magical Papyri, one of the most powerful books of magic.

While I was talking to Aphrodite, her candle literally exploded. The spirit left my body, and it started hurting my mother. Because she is an alcoholic and alcoholism is a generational curse, she is extremely sensitive to spirits. My mother works at LIDL, and while she was driving to work, she almost got into a car accident and died. When she arrived at work, she found her work gloves pointed with a middle finger. Kinda funny, right? The spirit loved messing with her mind. She couldn’t harm me, so she did to my mother. I put a protection spell on her, she survived and recovered. After that, I urgently went to the forest, casted the banishing spell which I share in today’s article. I put garlic under my tongue, this is a powerful secret in Romanian magic which I learned from spirits. This is a powerful protection spell, use it in your magic. I, Alex Raven and the spirits I work with, we give you permission to use it.

Finally let's start the ritual:

Take the possessed object, put it in a big bag and throw salt over it. Throw 9 cloves of blessed garlic, close the bag and spit on it for 3 times.

The Descântec used for the 9 Cloves of garlic: “Usturoiule, puroiule, cum Îl ustura pe om curul, așa sa il usture si pe strigoi. Să-l usture pe chelie, pe sub cap, pe sub ochi, între ochi, pe sub ochi, între ochi, între urechi, pe tǎlpi și suflet. 9 cǎței de usturoi am aruncat, de 9 ori te-am spurcat, pe pustiu te-am aruncat. Pe pustiu te așteaptă diavolul, el sǎ te ia, sǎ te ducǎ în iad de unde ai venit.’’

English Translation: ‘’Garlic, pus, just as the ass stings a man, so let it sting the undead. Let it sting the bald spot, under the head, under the eyes, between the eyes, under the eyes, between the eyes, between the ears, on the soles of the feet and the soul. I threw 9 cloves of garlic, 9 times I defiled you, I threw you into the wilderness. The devil awaits you in the wilderness, may he take you, take you to hell from where you came.''

Take another clove of garlic, put it under your tongue, and walk to the crossroads. Very important: DON’T, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK BACK OR TALK. One wrong move and you’re dead. Arriving there, if you want this done quickly, leave the coin first. If it’s not an emergency, leave the offering last. DON’T half do it.

Put yourself on your knees, head on the ground. Have in front of you a big old tree, one that looks horrifying. Ask him or help, in your own words. There is no ‘’perfect’’ way of doing it. Say what you feel, why you want his help, and how he can help. Bring him anything he asks you for, you are entering into a life-pact with the Devil. You can’t refuse him. DON’T do anything illegal or dangerous. Be mindful and responsible.

Leave the coin, kiss the ground, move slowly, very slowly…very, very, slowly… Then, get naked, put ritualic music, start SCREAMING : ‘’DIAVOLE, DIAVOLE, DIAAAA VOO OLEEEEE’’

Touch your body, embrace sensuality. While you do this, he will possess your body. Tell him how much you love him, he will always protect you. Spit the garlic, while screaming: ‘’ Come on spirits, KILL ME! KILL ME! KILL ME!’’

You have to do this in order to show him that you ACTUALLY trust him. While it is extremely disrespectful to spirits, you have to do that in order to show him that you trust him. He finds it funny, he told me this when i was possessed by him.

Walk home, keeping confidence. Move extremely slowly, you will feel thousands of spirits. They will all try to intimidate and scare you, don’t fall for it. This time, you are actually protected.

When arriving home, force yourself to cry in the mirror with a red candle. I won’t tell you why, it’s a surprise, you will see and thank me later. Wash everything, including body and salt.

Go to sleep, ring the bell 6 times, kiss yourself in the mirror and go to sleep.

ONLY DO THIS RITUAL IF YOU ARE OVER 18+!!!
